Frequently asked questions

What is an eternity band?

An eternity band is a ring featuring a continuous circle of identically cut stones set all the way around the band.

On the symbolism:

The unbroken circle of stones represents endless love, commitment, or celebration - with no beginning and no end. Historically given to mark significant milestones like anniversaries, weddings, or the birth of a child.

On our eternity bands:

Each Bellari eternity band features round brilliant-cut moissanite stones in a full pavé setting. The stones circle the entire band, creating continuous sparkle from every angle.

Available in 2mm or 3mm stone sizes, set in rhodium-plated sterling silver or 10K solid gold.

Can you stack eternity bands?

Yes. Eternity bands stack beautifully together or with other rings.

Common stacking approaches:

Multiple eternity bands worn together - two or three 2mm or 3mm bands create a dramatic stacked look whilst remaining refined.

Eternity band with engagement ring - the eternity band sits on either side of the engagement ring as a wedding band or anniversary band.

Mixed metals - rhodium-plated silver stacked with 10K gold creates visual interest through contrasting tones.

On width for stacking:

2mm eternity bands stack most easily - you can wear three or four together without overwhelming the hand.

3mm eternity bands are substantial enough that two stacked together creates a complete look.

Spacing consideration:

Some prefer rings stacked directly against each other. Others like a small gap between bands - this prevents rubbing and allows each ring to be distinct.

Is 10K gold good for everyday wear?

Yes. 10K gold is highly durable for daily wear.

Why 10K works for everyday:

10K gold contains 41.7% pure gold alloyed with stronger metals like copper, silver, or zinc. This higher alloy content makes it more scratch-resistant and durable than 14K or 18K gold.

The additional hardness means it holds its shape better over years of daily wear, particularly important for rings worn constantly.

On appearance:

10K yellow gold has a warmer, more subtle golden tone than higher karat gold.

10K white gold has a bright, silvery-white finish similar to platinum or rhodium-plated silver.

On value:

The durability of 10K gold makes it practical for pieces worn daily - it requires less maintenance and repair over time than softer, higher karat gold.

Will a 10K gold eternity band tarnish?

No. Gold does not tarnish or oxidise.

Why gold doesn't tarnish:

Gold is a noble metal - it doesn't react with oxygen, moisture, or most chemicals. Whether 10K, 14K, or 18K, gold maintains its colour and finish permanently.

The higher alloy content in 10K gold (copper, silver, zinc) might develop a very subtle patina over many years, but this isn't tarnish - it's a gentle softening of the finish that some consider desirable.

What can happen:

Surface buildup from oils, lotions, and daily wear can make the ring appear duller. This isn't tarnish - it's dirt, and it cleans away with warm water and mild soap.

On white gold specifically:

White gold may develop a subtle warmth over decades of wear as the rhodium plating (applied to whiten the gold) wears away naturally. This can be re-plated if desired, but many find the slightly warmer tone lovely.

Compared to silver:

Unlike sterling silver (even rhodium-plated), gold will never turn black, green, or develop the tarnish associated with silver.

Does moissanite look like a diamond?

Absolutely. Moissanite is often mistaken for diamonds — but it sparkles even more due to its higher refractive index. Bellari’s moissanite is hand-selected for its fire and clarity, offering a timeless diamond-like appearance with a modern edge.

What occasions are eternity bands given for?

Eternity bands traditionally mark significant milestones in relationships or life.

Most common occasions:

Weddings - Chosen as wedding bands for their symbolic meaning of endless commitment.

Anniversaries - Particularly milestone years like 10th, 20th, 25th, or 50th anniversaries.

Birth of a child - The eternity band marks becoming parents or the expansion of the family.

Major life achievements - Graduations, career milestones, personal accomplishments worth celebrating.

"Just because" - Some give eternity bands without a specific occasion, simply as a gesture of love or appreciation.

On the symbolism:

The continuous circle represents something without end - love, commitment, family, or time spent together. The occasion matters less than the sentiment.

As a gift to yourself:

Eternity bands needn't come from someone else. Many purchase them for themselves to mark personal milestones or simply because the piece brings joy.

How do you clean a moissanite eternity band?

Warm water, mild soap, soft brush.

The simple routine:

  1. Fill a small bowl with warm water and one drop of mild dish soap
  2. Use a soft-bristle brush (a clean toothbrush works) to gently clean around each stone and under the setting
  3. Rinse thoroughly under warm running water
  4. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth
  5. Allow to air dry completely before wearing or storing

What to avoid:

Harsh chemicals, bleach, or ammonia-based cleaners - these can damage metal finishes.

Ultrasonic cleaners - whilst safe for moissanite itself, the vibrations can loosen prong settings over time.

How often:

Weekly if worn daily. Monthly if worn occasionally.

For gold bands:

10K gold can be cleaned the same way. The gold won't tarnish or oxidise, but oils and lotions create buildup that dulls the shine.

How do you measure ring size for an eternity band?

Measure the finger where you'll wear the ring, at the time of day when your hands are their average size.

The most accurate method:

Visit a jeweller to have your finger measured professionally with a ring sizer. This eliminates guesswork.

Measuring at home:

Use a flexible tape measure or string wrapped around the finger, just below the knuckle where the ring will sit.

The tape should slide over the knuckle comfortably but sit snugly on the finger without cutting in.

Mark where the tape overlaps, then measure the length in millimetres and reference a ring size chart.

Important considerations:

Fingers are larger in heat and after exercise. Measure when your hands are at their normal temperature.

Your dominant hand is typically slightly larger than your non-dominant hand.

Knuckles can be larger than the base of the finger - the ring needs to slide over the knuckle comfortably.

Should I choose 2mm or 3mm for an eternity band?

2mm is delicate and refined. 3mm carries more presence.

2mm eternity band:

Creates a subtle, elegant line of sparkle. The narrow width makes it particularly suited to those with smaller hands or fingers, or those who prefer understated jewellery.

Works beautifully for stacking with other jewellery - multiple rings can be worn together with 2mm band without overwhelming the hand.

3mm eternity band:

Provides balanced visual weight. The stones are large enough to show moissanite's fire clearly, whilst remaining refined enough for daily wear.

This is our most chosen width - appropriate both as a standalone statement ring and for stacking with other bands.

Does moissanite look like a diamond in an eternity band?

To the untrained eye, rarely can anyone tell the difference.

On appearance:

Moissanite has slightly more fire - the rainbow flashes of colour when light refracts through the stones. Some find this more captivating than diamond's white brilliance alone.

Both moissanite and diamonds appear colourless to the naked eye when set in jewellery.

In an eternity band setting with many small stones, the difference is even less noticeable - the overall effect is continuous sparkle, whether diamond or moissanite.

Even jewellers:

Even jewellers sometimes need specialised tools to differentiate the two. The difference isn't obvious from visual inspection alone.

On our stones:

Each Bellari eternity band features D-colour (completely colourless), VVS1 clarity moissanite. These are the highest grades available - comparable to the finest diamonds.

Will eternity band rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver tarnish?

No. The rhodium plating prevents tarnish.

Why rhodium plating works:

Rhodium is part of the platinum family - a noble metal that doesn't oxidise or tarnish. The rhodium creates a protective barrier over the sterling silver base, preventing exposure to air and moisture.

As long as the rhodium plating remains intact, the silver underneath cannot tarnish.

How long does rhodium plating last:

With proper care and daily wear, rhodium plating on rings typically lasts 1-3 years before showing any wear. The plating wears gradually from friction - contact with other rings, surfaces, and daily activities.

High-friction areas (like the underside of the band that rubs against adjacent fingers) may show wear first, appearing as subtle warm-toned spots where the silver shows through.

When plating wears:

If the rhodium wears through in spots, the sterling silver underneath may develop tarnish in those exposed areas. This can be re-plated by a jeweller.

Most people find the plating lasts years with normal wear and proper care (removing during swimming, showering, manual work).

Compared to gold:

Our 10K gold eternity bands never require replating - the colour is throughout the metal, not a surface finish.

Is a 10K gold moissanite eternity band suitable for bridal styling?

Yes. Many couples in Australia choose 10K gold eternity bands for their balance of strength, tone and refined appearance.

Should I choose yellow gold or white gold for my eternity band?

Both are 10K solid gold - the choice is purely aesthetic.

Yellow gold (10K):

Warm, classic golden tone. The 10K has a subtler, more neutral yellow than higher karat gold - less intensely orange.

Pairs beautifully with vintage-inspired jewellery or warm-toned metals.

Complements warmer skin tones naturally, though it works on all skin tones.

White gold (10K):

Bright, silvery-white finish similar to platinum or rhodium-plated silver.

Pairs seamlessly with white metal engagement rings, tennis bracelets, or other white metal jewellery.

Complements cooler skin tones beautifully, though it works on all skin tones.

On mixing metals:

Some stack yellow and white gold eternity bands together. The contrast creates visual interest whilst maintaining cohesion through matching stone size and setting style.

If you're unsure:

White gold is slightly more versatile if you wear varied jewellery. Yellow gold creates more warmth and vintage character.

Consider what metals you already wear daily - matching your existing jewellery creates cohesion.

What's the difference between full eternity and half eternity bands?

Full eternity bands have stones circling the entire ring. Half eternity bands have stones only across the top half, with plain metal underneath.

Full eternity (what Bellari offers):

Stones circle 360 degrees around the band. Sparkle is visible from every angle - top, sides, and when viewing the hand from the palm side.

Symbolically represents "eternity" more literally - the circle is truly unbroken.

Half eternity (not offered by Bellari):

Stones only across the top half or three-quarters of the band. The underside is smooth metal.

Why we make full eternity bands:

The continuous circle of stones is what makes an eternity band an eternity band. The symbolism and aesthetic require the unbroken line.

Do you wear an eternity band with or without an engagement ring?

Both ways work beautifully - it depends on your preference and lifestyle.

Worn alongside an engagement ring:

The eternity band typically sits on the finger closest to the heart, with the engagement ring on top (worn first, closest to the knuckle). This is the traditional placement for wedding bands.

Some prefer the engagement ring in the middle, with eternity bands stacked on either side - particularly popular when wearing multiple eternity bands.

The 3mm width pairs well with most engagement rings without overwhelming the hand. The 2mm works beautifully if your engagement ring is already substantial.

Worn without an engagement ring:

Many choose an eternity band as their only ring - the continuous circle of stones creates complete visual impact on its own.

This works particularly well for those who prefer understated jewellery, work with their hands, or simply prefer the clean line of a single ring.

On matching metals:

If wearing with an engagement ring, matching the metal colour creates cohesion. Our 10K white gold pairs with white gold or platinum engagement rings. Our rhodium-plated silver works with white metals. Our 10K yellow gold complements yellow or rose gold.

Mixed metals can work beautifully too - white and yellow gold stacked together creates intentional contrast.

What's the difference between sterling silver and 10K gold eternity bands?

Both are durable for daily wear - the choice comes down to colour preference, longevity, and value.

Eternity band sterling silver with rhodium plating:

Creates a bright white metal finish similar to white gold or platinum. The rhodium plating protects the silver and maintains the brilliant white colour.

Eternity band 10K solid gold:

Available in yellow gold (warm tone) or white gold (bright white, similar to rhodium-plated silver).

The colour is throughout the metal - not a plating that can wear away. What you see when new is what it will look like decades from now.

On durability:

Both metals are durable enough for daily wear. 10K gold is slightly harder and more scratch-resistant than sterling silver.

Which to choose:

If you prefer white metal and want a piece that maintains its finish without replating, both our rhodium-plated silver and 10K white gold are beautiful.

If you want a piece where the colour is permanent throughout the metal, choose 10K gold.

If you love the warmth of yellow gold, only the 10K gold option provides this.
