Frequently asked questions

How do you clean a tennis necklace?

Warm water, mild soap, soft brush.

The process:

  1. Fill a small bowl with warm water and one drop of mild dish soap
  2. Use a soft-bristle brush (a clean toothbrush works) to gently clean around each stone and link
  3. Rinse thoroughly under warm running water
  4. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth
  5. Allow to air dry completely before storing

What to avoid:

- Harsh chemicals, including bleach, ammonia, or jewelry cleaners containing abrasives.

- Ultrasonic cleaners.

How often:

Weekly if worn daily. Monthly if worn occasionally.

Can you sleep in a tennis necklace?

You can. We suggest removing it.

The clasp experiences stress during sleep - pulling, pressure from lying on it. Over time, this accelerates wear on the mechanism.

Your neck rests during sleep. The jewelry can as well.

If you keep it on:

Check the clasp monthly to ensure both the primary closure and safety latch engage properly.

On the setting:

The stones themselves are secure in their settings. Sleep won't dislodge them. The concern is mechanical wear on the clasp and chain over years of nightly friction.

Can a tennis necklace be a wedding gift?

It's a beautiful way to celebrate the bride.

A gift she'll treasure:

A tennis necklace is a personal piece - something she'll wear on the wedding day itself and continue wearing long after. It becomes a lasting reminder of those who celebrated this moment with her.

Bellari offers complimentary gift wrap on all orders, packed, and ready to gift.

If you'd like her to choose:

A Bellari gift card allows the bride to select her own piece - the length, stone size, and style that feels most like her.

Should I choose 16" or 18" for a tennis necklace?

16 inches sits along the collarbone. 18 inches sits lower on the chest.

The most considered choice is 16 inches, designed to sit just along the collarbone and create a clean, refined line. It is the length most clients are naturally drawn to, as it frames the neckline with quiet precision.

An 18 inch length offers a softer drape, sitting slightly lower on the chest. It lends itself well to layering, especially when paired with finer chains or a single pendant.

On necklines:

16" works with strapless, off-shoulder, V-neck, and scoop necks. The necklace frames the opening rather than falling into it.

18" works with higher necklines, crew necks, or when layering with other chains. The additional length prevents crowding at the collarbone.

The choice comes down to how you prefer your jewellery to sit. Structured and close to the collarbone, or slightly relaxed with more movement.

Does a tennis necklace suit all neck lengths?

Yes, though length choice matters.

For shorter necks:

18 inches creates visual length. The lower sit point elongates the neckline rather than cutting it horizontally.

Avoid lengths that sit directly at the widest part of the neck - this emphasizes width rather than length.

For longer necks:

Both 16" and 18" work. 16" creates a deliberate choker effect that emphasizes the neck itself. 18" sits more traditionally at the base of the throat.

For average necks:

16 inches is the classic proportion - sitting where a tennis necklace has traditionally sat for decades.

On proportion:

The necklace width (2mm or 3mm stones) matters as much as length. A 3mm tennis necklace creates more visual weight than a 2mm, regardless of length.

What necklines work best with a tennis necklace?

Open necklines that expose the collarbone.

Ideal necklines:

Strapless: The tennis necklace creates a horizontal line that complements the dress opening. 16" sits precisely where a strapless gown ends.

Off-shoulder: Similar to strapless - the necklace frames the exposed shoulder and collarbone area.

V-neck: The necklace creates a counterpoint to the downward angle of the V. Works with both deep and shallow V-necks.

Scoop neck: Classic pairing. The curved neckline echoes the curved drape of the necklace.

When to avoid:

High crew necks: The necklace disappears into the fabric. If wearing with crew necks, choose 18" to sit below the neckline entirely.

Turtlenecks: Similar issue - the necklace has nowhere to sit visibly.

Collared shirts: Can work if the collar is open and the necklace sits outside it. Otherwise, it creates visual competition.

Is a moissanite tennis necklace suitable for layering?

Yes. Its clean structure makes it one of the easiest pieces to layer.

It pairs well with finer chains or a single pendant, adding depth without overwhelming the look. The key is spacing and proportion, allowing each piece to sit comfortably without competing.

Is a moissanite tennis necklace suitable for bridal wear?

Yes. A moissanite tennis necklace is a natural choice for bridal wear.

Its clean, continuous line of light sits elegantly along the neckline, complementing a gown without competing for attention. It works particularly well with strapless, off shoulder, or open neckline silhouettes, where the piece can frame the collarbone with quiet precision.

Many brides choose a tennis necklace for its balance. It feels refined enough for the ceremony, yet understated enough to be worn again long after the day itself.

In 16 inches, it sits neatly along the collarbone for a more structured look. In 18 inches, it softens slightly, allowing for a more relaxed drape or subtle layering.

It is not a piece reserved for a single moment. It becomes part of your collection, worn again in a different setting, with the same sense of ease.

Does the tennis necklace come with a matching bracelet?

Yes. We offer them separately and as a set.

The matching bracelet:

Our tennis bracelet features the same round brilliant-cut moissanite stones, same setting style, same rhodium-plated 925sterling silver.

Available in 2mm or 3mm to match your necklace size.

Wearing them together:

The necklace and bracelet are designed as companion pieces. Worn together, they create a cohesive aesthetic - same stone size, same brilliance, intentional pairing.

The set:

We offer a Tennis Necklace & Bracelet Set (in 3mm) for those who prefer the matched pairing from the start.

Or separately:

Many customers purchase the bracelet first, then add the necklace later. Both approaches work - the pieces will match regardless of when they're acquired.

What length tennis necklace for a wedding dress?

The most beautiful pairing depends on your gown's neckline.

For strapless or off-shoulder gowns:

16 inches sits naturally at the collarbone, creating a delicate line that echoes where your gown begins. It frames your shoulders and neckline with quiet elegance.

For V-neck or sweetheart necklines:

Both lengths are lovely. 16 inches sits closer and feels more structured, while 18 inches drapes a little lower, following the gentle curve of your neckline.

For higher necklines:

18 inches works beautifully - sitting just below the neckline so everything has space to breathe. This works particularly well with illusion necklines or gowns with delicate lace at the throat.

On choosing your stone size:

The 3mm tennis necklace (our signature size) is appropriate for most bridal styling - present without overwhelming the gown.

The 2mm works for minimalist brides or those wearing particularly ornate gowns where the necklace should remain secondary.

Should the bride wear a tennis necklace or earrings, or both?

Many brides wear both beautifully - it comes down to your gown and how you're styling your hair.

When both feel lovely:

If your gown is simple and elegant with clean lines, both pieces have room to shine. The jewellery becomes your detail.

If you're wearing your hair up or pulled back, both your neck and ears are beautifully framed - each piece has its moment.

With minimal or no veil, everything stays visible throughout the day.

When one piece might feel right:

If your gown is already rich in details, embellished with beading or lace, stud earrings alone can feel more balanced - they frame your face without adding more detail.

With hair worn down and loose, a necklace shows clearly while earrings play a quieter role.

If you're wearing a statement veil or hair piece, you might let that be the star and choose just earrings as a subtle complement.

A gentle guide:

Necklaces feel naturally suited to evening or formal ceremonies. Earrings alone can be perfect for daytime or garden celebrations where simplicity feels right.

On pairing Bellari pieces:

Our tennis necklace pairs with our round-cut stud earrings or oval-cut stud earrings - same moissanite, same setting style, and cohesive.

How do you wear a tennis necklace with other necklaces?

Layer with intention.

A single fine chain worn slightly longer than the tennis necklace or sits on top of tennis necklace. The contrast in weight - delicate chain against substantial stones - creates visual interest.

A simple pendant on a chain, positioned 2-4 inches below the tennis necklace. Allows both pieces to occupy distinct visual space.

What doesn't:

Multiple chains at the same length. They tangle and compete rather than complement.

Chunky statement pieces layered with a tennis necklace. The styles conflict - choose one to lead.

On spacing:

Each piece needs at least 2 inches of separation to move independently. Closer than this, they tangle and lose individual definition.

Proportion matters:

If your tennis necklace is 3mm (our signature size), pair it with finer chains. The tennis necklace should remain the focal piece.

If your tennis necklace is 2mm, you have more flexibility in pairing weights.

Should you choose 2mm or 3mm stones for a tennis necklace?

2mm is refined. 3mm is our signature.

2mm creates a delicate line of light. The necklace reads as subtle - present but not prominent. Suited to those who prefer understated jewellery or plan to layer with other pieces.

The narrower width makes it particularly suited to petite frames or those who want a tennis necklace that doesn't dominate.

3mm creates balanced presence. This is the proportion we return to most often - visible without excess, appropriate for wearing alone or with our matching tennis bracelet.

The width provides enough surface for the moissanite's fire to show clearly. Light refracts more noticeably than with 2mm stones.

On versatility:

3mm works for more occasions - formal enough for events, refined enough for daily wear.

2mm leans more casual, though it can be dressed up through layering or pairing with statement earrings.

Our recommendation:

If this is your first or only tennis necklace, choose 3mm. The proportion has remained classic for a reason.

Should a tennis necklace be given on the morning of the wedding?

Some partners give jewellery on the wedding morning as a final gesture before the ceremony - something for the bride to wear as she prepares and walks down the aisle.

The tennis necklace works for this because it complements most gowns and doesn't require the bride to have planned her jewelry around it in advance.
